Michelmores Property Awards – Shortlist Announced

The shortlist has been announced for the 2017 Michelmores Property Awards.

The Michelmores Property Awards awards recognises exceptional projects across categories, including; education, commercial, leisure, heritage and the public sector.

WWA are delighted to have been involved in four of the shortlisted projects:

Education Project of the Year

Fox Atrium – Falmouth University, Falmouth

Fox Atrium at Falmouth University brings together a collection of buildings into one holistic form. It incorporates shared flexible work and socialising spaces, cafe and internal courtyard. Innovative design ensures the re-purposing of existing buildings, whilst creating a beautiful piece of architecture. A stunning new space has evolved, whilst maintaining a fully functioning campus. This building is truly in keeping with the University’s creative ethos.

Michelmores Property Awards - Falmouth University, Cornwall

Leisure & Hospitality Project of the Year

Gaia Spa – Boringdon Hall Hotel, Plymouth

Gaia Spa is set within the grounds of the Grade I listed, 16th century Boringdon Hall. The project has created 50 new jobs and has therefore, secured a bright future for the historic hotel. Expertly designed, the building has merged into the hillside, discretely spanning 3 floors. The contemporary design of the pools, treatment rooms and social areas embraces the surrounding countryside. Utilising nature to create spaces for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Michelmores Property Awards - Boringdon Hall Hotel, Plymouth

Leisure & Hospitality Project of the Year

Seaton Jurassic Visitor Centre, East Devon

Seaton Jurassic is an exciting new visitor attraction and as a result, a catalyst for regeneration. Owned by East Devon District Council and operated by Devon Wildlife Trust, the centre is built on a disused car park in Seaton.  Through expert design and interactive technology, the centre guides visitors through life over the past 250 million years. It captures the evolution on the Jurassic Coast, England’s first Natural World Heritage Site.

Michelmores Property Awards - Seaton Jurassic Visitor Centre, Devon

Heritage Project of the Year

St Johns Hall, Penzance

The St John’s Hall refurbishment has transformed the Grade II Listed town landmark. It now hosts Cornwall Council’s ‘One Stop Shop’, library, adult education centre and NHS. The granite building, the largest of its type in the UK has been preserved and protected, whilst providing modern, functional spaces. In addition, it has also boosted the local economy, enhancing the sense of local community and safeguarding Council services locally.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 15th June at the University of Exeter.
