WWA Friendly Fruit

WWA Friendly Fruit

With the recent press I am sure most of us are fully aware of the effects of plastic pollution. Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic enter our oceans and scientists believe around 5.25 trillion macro and microplastic pieces are floating in the open ocean – weighing up to 269,000 tonnes.

We wanted to improve our health and well-being at WWA by providing fresh fruit to all our staff but found the amount of packaging from supermarkets unacceptable and negating our quest to reduce plastic pollution.

We put our thinking caps on in the Truro office and were delighted to find a small local fruit and veg supplier – ‘The Old Market’ in nearby Chacewater. The team at the Old Market agreed to assemble a basket of seasonal fruits and drop it off on their way into Truro centre. No plastic is used and any tubs (for cherries and grapes this month) are made from corn starch and are 100% compostable. Perfect!

Feedback from our staff has been 100% positive. We are now on a mission to roll out ‘friendly fruit’ in all our offices!
