New Affordable Housing Development Opens in Plymouth

Westward Housing Group have worked in partnership with Plymouth City Council to build a new affordable housing scheme, incorporating 22 units in Plymouth.

The scheme situated at Tavistock Road provides a range of accommodation including two bed flats and three, four and six bedroom houses, which are to be made available through Help to Buy South West.

The total cost for the project was in excess of £3m and was part funded by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Barbara Shaw, Westward’s Chief Executive, said: “Westward is pleased to have the opportunity to work with Plymouth City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency to provide quality homes which give people a chance to rent or even buy into shared ownership affordably.”

The incorporation of sustainability features such as increased insulation, gas efficient boilers and photovoltaic cells on the roofs, will also ensure that the properties are more affordable to heat.

The homes were designed by Rogers and Jones Architects and built by main contractor Ryearch Ltd for developer Eliot Design and Build Ltd. Ward Williams Associates provided cost management services throughout the duration of the project.

Jim Griffin, Principal Surveyor commented: “This project has delivered much needed affordable housing for local people in Plymouth. We have worked with the team to overcome challenges during construction, including last winter’s poor weather and have created quality housing to be proud of”.
