WWA Attend ICE Professional Skills Review

Civil Engineering Project Manager, Kieren Couch was invited to attend the Institution of Civil Engineering’s (ICE) Headquarters in Westminster, for a debate on the upcoming ICE Professional Review Skills report.

Kieren is one of the ICE’s future leaders. These engineers are held in high esteem by the membership for their passion and motivation. They are also recognised amongst current leaders as being custodians of civil engineering and the voice on a range of topics.

At the recent event, the ICE actively considered current and future graduates, debating what skills they will need to operate effectively in an industry gripped by the rapid growth of digitalisation and autonomous procedure.

Kieren and other future leaders also discussed competence and the current structure for assessing a member’s skills following professional review. They reviewed what reassessment might look like as Civil Engineers develop in their careers and the risk of losing some of the skills they once possessed.

They also discussed the tragedy of Grenfell and how the lessons learned from that tragic event may shape the way the Government expects professional institutions such as the ICE, to ensure adequate regulation and its members having relevant skills and knowledge.

The event ended with some broader discussion points and networking with the current President Lord Robert Mair in attendance.

Kieren said: “Being one of the ICE’s Future Leaders is something I am very proud of. I act as an ambassador for the Civil Engineering industry and actively engage with all of the initiatives promoted by the ICE”.

“This event was incredibly thought-provoking and it raised some really interesting points for discussion and debate, particularly around how we can ensure that our industry stays at the forefront of innovation and technology”.
