WWA proud sponsors of the Net Zero Award at CESW Awards

Tonight sees the announcement of this year’s winners at the Constructing Excellence South West Awards, and Ward Williams Associates are delighted to be sponsoring the Net Zero Award at this year’s event. James Beckly, Managing Partner of Ward Williams Associates and Board Member of Constructing Excellence South West, will present the award to the winning project chosen from five shortlisted projects.

The award celebrates construction that demonstrates “high environmental and climate performance in construction aims to meet present-day needs for housing, working environments and infrastructure without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” and advocates for projects that have limited their impact on the natural environments and exemplify whole life sustainability.

As a B Corp™, WWA aims to influence a more sustainable built environment for people, places and the planet, both now and in the future, so sponsorship of the Net Zero Award in 2022 was a natural fit for us and provides the perfect platform to champion projects leading the way in translating environmental and climate goals into a better-built environment.

The construction industry accounts for 38% of global CO2 emissions and we need to reduce those emissions dramatically to achieve the UK’s target of net zero by 2050. At WWA, we’ve taken those first steps on our journey to building a more inclusive and sustainable economy but, as an industry, we have a collective responsibility to drive change in the construction sector and we will take every opportunity to support others striving to achieve better in the built environment and will celebrate those who are making changes now for future generations.

Speaking about tonight’s Net Zero Award, James said, “Delighted to be presenting the New Zero Award at tonight’s Constructing Excellence Awards in Bristol.  The category is a fantastic opportunity for those at the forefront of our industry to showcase their talents, innovations, and entrepreneurial spirit in tackling the enormous challenge of climate change. All the shortlisted projects are great examples of how the expertise within the construction industry can achieve outstanding environmental results through teamwork and a commitment to make the right choices during the design and construction.”

The shortlisted projects for tonight’s award are:

• Zero-Carbon Social Housing Scheme by Zed Pods & Mid-Devon District Council

• George Parker Bidder Building (GrowOutBldg-3), Exeter Science Park

• Covered Lagoon to Capture Biomethane, Cornwall

• St Sidwells Point, Exeter

• CLiCCC Project – Decarbonising Lithium Mining Through Circular Economy, Cornwall
