Heartlands Project, Pool

The Lottery Funded Heartlands Project transformed Cornwall’s most derelict urban area into an inspirational cultural landscape. Now designated as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site; Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape.

The project conserves 10 Grade II* and 6 Grade II listed buildings that form the historic centrepiece; Robinsons Shaft mining complex. In addition substantial new build elements are provided creating a dynamic visitor attraction and community facility containing a cafe in the old carpenter’s shop, visitor centre, community hall, art gallery, artist live/work units, offices and additional residential units.

Externally a formal diaspora garden celebrates where Cornish miners plied their trades across the world, whilst the west country’s largest adventure playground provides children’s entertainment, within a 4 acre parkland setting. WWA were appointed to provide Project Management, Quantity Surveying and CDM Principal Designer services.
