National Apprenticeship Week 2023

National Apprenticeship Week 2023

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week 2023. Over the past 16 years, National Apprenticeship Week has offered an opportunity to celebrate apprentices in the workplace and highlight the advantages apprentices bring to a company. This year’s theme is ‘Skills for Life’ – focussing on how apprenticeships present an alternative route into a career for students and their formative role in developing skills and learning about an industry ‘on-the-job’.

As a B Corp, WWA are driven by the desire to influence a more sustainable built environment, including positively impacting future generations – and we proactively employ apprentices from the communities local to our seven offices. We believe that integrating apprentices and growing future talent adds intrinsic value to the business and underpins the WWA B Corp values of People, Places, Planet. It’s incredibly important to us to be training and supporting the future generation of construction professionals.

Last month, the WWA team in Plymouth announced their participation in a new initiative for local apprentices called BPART launched by Building Plymouth. The BPART – Building Plymouth Apprentices Rising Talent – programme offers a networking platform open to all construction apprentices in the area to develop their understanding of other sector roles, how teams and individuals fit together to deliver construction projects and to meet others who are just starting out on their construction careers. BPART is a 12-month programme delivered by prominent construction employers who through a series of seminars will share industry best practice and support apprentices in building those all-important construction contacts.

For National Apprenticeship Week, we will be sharing the stories of our WWA apprentices – join us throughout the week to get a view of life as an apprentice at WWA.
